South of Caen is the area known as Suisse normande. While it may put paid to the image of Normandy as flat, the peaks do not reach Alpine proportions. A good base for exploring the area is Clécy which has excellent views of the surrounding countryside.

No visit to the region would be complete without seeing the Bayeux tapestry. The 70 metre long embroidered tableau conjures up life in the 11th century and William's victory at Hastings.

The Bayeux Tapestry tells the story of the events leading up to and including the Battle of Hastings on October 14, 1066.
