North towards Argentan is Château d’O which was begun in the 15th century. Near the village of Mortrée the château sits in the centre of a lake and looks like it should be beside the Loire. Argentan itself suffered in the last days of WWII with only 20% surviving the fighting and inevitably it was rebuilt hurriedly. To the east, l’Aigle is a pretty market town to explore on foot. |
