When to go

High season

The official bathing season goes from the middle of June till the middle of September and during the Summer months the temperature on the coast always remains bearable. The period after that through to October often has days around 20 degrees and the water temperature can be around 17 degrees through till October.

The high season with accordingly priced hotels and holiday homes is around July / August and those who can either can just before or just after. The prices can be up to a third less. You should be aware that in the Summer you'll be sharing Normandy with countless French holidaymakers in search of sun and sea. Many hotels and restaurants have a few weeks off during the winter months and some hotels especially on the coast shut completely over the winter.

Other times

Other times to consider going are in the Spring when apple tree blossom fills the countryside or Autumn (Fall) when the apples are ripe and the Calvados distilleries start sending plumes of smoke into the cool morning air. Both times of the year are good for walking be it by the coast or in Swiss Normandy.

It never really gets cold in the winter just wetter, which can make heating your holiday home harder. Read up on the climate in Normandy.
